Com GG DHOLAKIA (Babuji) was born at Rajkot on 25th March 1914 and joined Bank Of India on 01.03.1937 at Mumbai. The matter relates to a decade before freedom when regulated working hours for Bank employees was absent. It was the time of employees were being exploited. They were not getting privilege leave, salary hike. It was considered as a surprise that there can be any rules and regulations as regards bank employee jobs. In absence of organizational structure and set rules, started organization after giving fight on personal level for about a decade against injustice being meted out to workers.

He started paying attention to personal problems of employees from 1937 to 1946. Knowing that problems of employees can be resolved only through organization, he initiated founding BOI Employees Organisation and became vice president in 1946. At that time names of Abdulbhai Jafarbhai and Ashok Mehta were prominent on national level in labour activities. As after 1946, different awards were started in different States for same Bank employees. It resulted into a grave situation. In bringing various regional organizations under the aegis of one national level Federation, Babuji remained prominent with Com Ramdas Dutt, Com Guha, Com Lehri, Com GN Trikanand, Com V.M. Devi, Com K.J.Joseph and Com J.M. Vyas organized first meeting at Ahmedabad. Thereafter, Federation was formed legally in 1951 and G. G. Dholakia earned nickname of ‘Babuji’. Babuji’s career started showing right from the inception of Federation. In 1951, he led 42 days strike successfully amongst Bank of India employees. He shouldered the responsibility as Vice President of Bank employees’ mother institution AIBEA for one year. He organized Dena Bank employees, and rendered services as President for one year.

Rendering continuous service for 37 years till October 1974 when he retired, Babuji remained active as regards problems of Bank Employees. Moreover, he remained active for six years as Provident Fund Trustee.

After retirement in 1974, he came to stay at Rajkot. Despite losing eye sight he remained President of BOI Saurashtra & Kutch Branches Staff Union and providing us invaluable guidance. Babuji breathed his last on the night of 11.12.1988 at Rajkot. Powerful Organisation and discipline in Organisation remained his main motto during his lifetime.
